Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

Diamond In The Rough: The Kitchen

A good friend just bought her first home and was telling me about the rooms in her new house that are outdated and need work.

I starting digging through photos of both of our houses... I hope you enjoy these pictures as you watch the transformations of our first house and our current home. I'm affectionately calling this photo series 'Diamond In The Rough'.

Ideally, we would love to gut and completely renovate the kitchen within the next few years. Until then, we worked some magic with paint & wallpaper, changed out the cabinetry hardware and sink fixtures, and installed new flooring.

The Kitchen (Before):

The Transformation:

Removing the cabinet doors so they can be lightly sanded, primed and painted:

Priming the entire kitchen:

Kitchen is primed!

Paint goes on the walls, wainscoting and cabinetry:

Primed the countertops (the black is primer):

Faux granite finish on the countertops. Not too shabby, eh?

Before the back-splash:

After the back-splash:

Yukon says "Another project?!" Our poor dog has been going through his entire life watching us do home improvement projects!

Ten months after we did the work in the photos above, we installed laminate flooring in the kitchen:

He has become a great lil' helper!

And... The End Result (photos taken today, 7/21)

Cabinetry & Wainscoting Paint Color: Sherwin-Williams Classic Light Buff
Laminate Flooring: Estate Oak, from Home Depot
Back-Splash is wallpaper from Blue Mountain Wallcovering (sold at Sherwin-Williams): Pattern # SW5CB181492
Countertop Paint: Giani Granite Paint; Silician Sand
