Zoar Valley Camp

I had the opportunity to visit Zoar Valley Camp in mid-August for a Closing Ceremony. The Girl Scout Council sadly, and unfortunately, sold the beloved camp last year.

Thankfully, the new owners are absolutely wonderful and they truly appreciate and love ZVC just as all of its former campers, staff and volunteers do. They were kind enough to allow us the opportunity to visit camp for the day.

It was great to simply just be there - experiencing the peace of the woods, the soothing trickle of the creek, the smell of earth and trees and campfire. To hear the laughter and singing echoing through the Valley. To tromp through the creek, feel the spray of water and hear the rush of Watermans Falls. To just be yourself in the most accepting place I know. To reminisce about the first place I attended summer camp as a child (with my mom in 1986). To visit the place where I met my very best friends. To step foot on the property that helped me develop leadership skills, my career and carve out my niche' (in the youth program development field). To simply say good-bye to a very dear and old friend.

Zoar Valley Camp holds so many memories for me and everyone else who has been there. It will always have a very special place in my heart. It saddens me that my child(ren) will not experience the splendor of Zoar that I once did, but knowing that it is once again in the good, caring hands of wonderful people makes my heart happy.

Here are a few photos from my day there:
