Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

Passover. Easter. 2010.

It's been awhile since I have written and I've come to realize that I'm very bad at updating my blog on a regular basis. I apologize! This journaling thing will take some getting used to because I am not accustomed to writing about myself, or my family, on a daily basis.

We have been busy the past few weeks: Passover, Easter, play dates, field trips, yard work, and more!

Passover was celebrated this year in our new home. It was very fitting to have moved into our house just two weeks before Passover. We have much to be thankful for! Our dinner this year included an autumn salad, lamb chops with pesto, bitter herb, green beans, and candied sweet potatoes. As always, Terry made charoset and matzoh.

We broke matzoh, had wine, and took them in remembrance of Jesus Christ's sacrifice.

The food was delicious and it was nice to have our family gathered around our table. Of course there were was lots joking around, talk of politics and worldly affairs... no meal is usually ever without it!

The day seemed go by much too quickly though, and at the end of it all I was left with an incomplete feeling... as if we had forgotten something. That night we talked about dinner and agreed that it had seemed to become too preoccupied with other things... the exact opposite of what we want it to be for our family! We agreed that next year we will make an effort to keep Passover the focus of conversation at our table: its meaning, the food and its symbolism... the way we enjoyed Passover when we first started celebrating it five years ago.

Easter was another day that went by so quickly this year. Does time move faster when you have kids?! It sure seems that way! :)

Easter Sunday actually coincided well with Passover this year, which we were very happy about. There are some years when Easter is a full month after Passover, which is not accurate!!

Easter Sunday follows the Gregorian Solar Calendar and can fall anytime between March 22 and April 25. The First Council of Nicaea established Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox. But remember that Jesus was crucified on Passover, and on the third day He rose!! Therefore, the "anniversary" of his Resurrection would fall on the third day after Passover.

Passover follows the Hebrew calendar, which is a lunisolar calendar, and always begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan. Nisan usually falls in March or April on the Gregorian Calendar.

Why didn't The First Council of Nicaea just establish Easter as the third day following Passover?? Because of Pagan festivals that were adapted to become "Christian" ones... that's a post for another day. The third day following Passover is when Jesus' Resurrection should be celebrated. Remember... Biblical Truth!!

This year we enjoyed an Easter Brunch with some of my father's side of the family, and then headed to Terry's aunt's house for dessert and conversation.
