We also have discovered that Ameno is a municipality in the Province of Novara in the Italian region Piedmont (near the borders of Switzerland and France). We find this quite interesting because Terry has been told that his great grandfather was an Italian immigrant whose last name was originally Gambino, but who changed his last name upon arrival to America. He is now very interested in investigating that "story" more in depth. Could Ameno always have been his ancestor's last name? A name they took from their hometown in Italy?
I think someday we would like to visit this little town of Ameno; "the village is on the top of a hill surrounded by mountains, lake and brushland. Ameno contains numerous ancient homes and castles belonging to noble families or Torino & Milano who vacationed in Ameno in the summer". It sure sounds (and looks) pleasant to me!! :)
